Down River (post 52)
ABSOLUTELY. Just to make it up to everyone Tally hurt. Also to prove to all those doctors trying to hide the lesions, to prove it to everyone.
Confessions (post 51)
She will probobly regret it. But it's better to just regret that than much more, she did the right thing.
David will definitely change his mind about her, but I think he should try to find the better in Tally.
Hippocratic Oath (post 50)
YES, FORCE IT DOWN HER PRETTY LITTLE THROAT! jk. but yes she shoulda forced her. Shay would have been better off with her non-diseased brain.
Night Alone (post 49)
I would, because I wouldn't want to be some crazy freak who wanted to brush their hair 24/7.
Get Away (post 48)
Tally knows Shay is a different person she wants Shay to notice that. Tally is sure Shay has the lesions. She knows her real friend is somewhere deep down in the selfish, inconsiderate pretty.
Inside (post 46)
This probobly has a deeper meaning. I'm not exactly sure in what way, but I know for sure an author wouldn't put something so suspicious in their book if it didn't mean anything.
labels:
long term detention-Kind of like and ISS
interrigation room-questioning room
disorientation room-a room for the confused
radiology room-a room for treatment of disease
neurology room- having to do with the nerves;a room treating the disease of the nervous system
magnetic imaging room-?
operating theatre two-watch the operations
Shay's appearance at the end of the chapter (textual evidence):
"She was tall and elegant, every feature profection. Her eyes-deep and soulful, flecked with copper and gold-wordlessly, and she raised one gracefully hand. Tally almost stopped at the beauty of her confusion."

Over the Edge (post 45)
Hi. I'm Caitlyn. I wanted you to know that. Because I'm important to the world.
Accomplices (post 44)
Tally was living a normal Ugly life. She ate. slept. lived life. and that was pretty much it. Until Shay crashed her dreams of a normal life. Kind of like those action movies where they're on top of the train fighting, and it's life or death. Tally has to find Shay or it's ugly for life, or a pretty, what she's always dreamed of. Basically Tally runs into this little thing called reality. She finds life holds so many things, even bad ones. She changed for the better. She realized what had to be done, and life isn't fair. I think the whole Smoke thing made her change, and find who she really was, and what she really had to do.
Familiar Sights (post 43)
Yes, Tally is doing the right thing. she hurt David and his mother, and everyone else at the Smoke. She owes all of them. She had to do it for David. I think her feelings are how they should be.
Oil Plague (post 42)
In a way yes, but no. It's just that technology had progressed, and we were "stupid". We didn't know about the importance of recycling. Or that things could work how they did for Uglyville and New Pretty Town.
The weaknesses of our society:
People are do things they shouldn't, like rob banks. Which includes money, which is another problem, that I shouldn't get into on the internet, more important on my SCHOOLWORK.
The weaknesses of their society:
They judge by looks.

Tally saves the Boss's magz from the duffel bag, but....... unfortunately the Boss was killed.

(post 39)
David is right Tally is amazing, AMAZING AT LIEING. Tally should feel so guilty, that she feels sick. She should feel guilty because of all the people she has hurt with her lies, David will be so disappointed when he finds out she's the reason the town is under attack, and everyone is being captured.
Run (post 38)
The voice is David. He is a friend. Tally will probobly stay in the cave until they can come out when its safe enough.
In Case of Damage (post 37)
Self preservation to me is like a very dangerous weapon, you should only use it when your in need of it, not when you didn't do your homework and your parents are mad, and threatening to ground you, because things can go veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery wrong.
I don't believe self preservation is the most important things, I think you should put others first, but now and again yourself, only when you have to.
I wouldn't lie to keep myself out of trouble. LIEING WILL ONLY PUT YOU DEEPER. ONCE AGAIN, LIEING WILL ONLY PUT YOU DEEPER IN THE SITUATION, AND THINGS WILL ONLY GET WORSE. So your best bet is really just to spill your guts, take the consequenses, and be done.
The Rabbit Pen (post 36)
I think Tally is really confused, and scared, and she really doesn't know whose side to be on.
Invasion (post 35)
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! It has to be. Tally now has her life on the line, will she turn pretty or be stuck and ugly forever? I believe it's the climax mostly because you don't know what's going to happen next, Tally could go back and turn pretty, or she might go back and ugly, and stay and ugly.
Burning Bridges (post 34)
Name 1 person in your personal (home) life and 1 in your academic life... what makes this person beautiful?
personal life: One person in my personal life that I find beautiful, would probobly be... my mom just because of her good heart, and fun and loving personality. Kind of like in the book, David finds Tally's soul beautiful, not her face, you don't have to be a pretty face for someone to call you beautiful, my moms beautiful because she loves me.
academic life:
I find my teachers beautiful. I think my teachers are beautiful, beacause of how intelligent they are, and how much they know, and can teach. Teachers it may seem are annoying sometimes, but when you get thrown out into the big, old cruel world, your going to look back at all those years, and your going to be thanking them for putting you on the right path, and teaching you all the right things.
academic life:
Pretty Minds (post 33)
"Becoming pretty doesn't just change the way you look...it changes the way you think."
What does this mean to you?
How would you want to change mentally and physically if you were pretty? (habits, intelligence, and physical attributes)
This quote is saying once you walk out of the hospital as a pretty you are a totally different person.Your body isn't the only thing that changes in the operation, your mind and thoughts change too. You might go in as a sweet, generous person, and come out as this snobby, stuck-up jerk who turns away their friends (Peris).
I would want to become smarter in so many ways, I'd also want to become stronger, and more muscular.

The Secret (post 32)
No one is pretty, which means people can look alike.
Predict what you think being pretty is:
a trait that some people are blessed with
Bravery (post 31)
imagery: "The orchids glowed with pale malevolence in the moonlight, a frozen sea against the dark forest shore." pg 245
personification: "...choking the life out of other plants, out of soil itself, selfish and unstoppable." pg 244
simile: "Without even trying, she'd shafted her best friend, like a walking poison, she killed everything." pg 244
Does it require bravery to meet David's parents? Why or why not?
It definitely does require bravery, because his parents could find out she isn't who she says she is.
Suspicion (post 30)
She kind of has a right, because every once in a while everyone gets caught by that big green monster (jealousy). And she kind of did have David first.
Tally received a gift from David in the chapter that is special. Have you ever recieved something that made others jealous as this gift did? Did yours have a meaning behind it as Tally's had.
Not exactly but I understand where Tally is coming from.
Hearthrob (post 29)
She wouldn't have fallen in love with it, and began to like it, and the people there.
David (post 28)
I think they ran away because they were just creating obsessed, excited, dumb, and pretty freaks!
"They are doctors."
Work (post 27)

The Model (post 26)
What do you think about Shay's description of a model? Shay and Tally have a skewed view of our time, but what have they got right?
They are surely right about the "disease". I can tell why Tally finds it discusting. Everyone wants to be skinny, but........... when it comes to being that skinny it's ugly. Even as ugly as Shay and Tally. Tally and Shay are always critisizing themselves, and other uglies, but they now realize something just as ugly as themselves.
Lies (post 25)
- likes Shay
- an ugly
- adventorous
- kind of wierd
- crooked smile
- his foorhead was too high
- handmade clothes
a picture to represent the Smoke:

I chose this picture because they said they cut down trees for a lot of the things in the town, and it also described woods surrounding the town.
Bug Eyes (post 24)
- a man gives Tally oxygen
- she learns about the Rangers, flowers, and helicopter
- they drop her off
- then she waits for Shay
Respond to the following quote:
".......Tally was stuck out here in the wild forever. Ugly for life. Her only away home was to betray her friend."
All Tally wanted was to be pretty, and if she wanted it as bad as it sounds, then she'll do what she has to do to achieve that goal.
Firestorm (post 23)
"Billowing clouds of smoke surrounded her, blotting out the sky. A raggall of flame moved through the flowers, giving off a wave of blistering heat."
example of simile:
"Her footsteps ignited with flame as she ran through the blackened flowers, like stabbing a poker into a slumbering fire."
example of personification:
?
The Side You Despise (post 22)
- a plane
- Special Circumstances
Tally is being spied on by Special Circumstances.
The Worst Mistake (post 21)
Have you ever made yourself do something that you didn't want to do because you knew you had to?
I probobly have, but it's not exciting enough for me to remember.
my prediction: what will happen next:
Tally is in trouble.
Sunday, February 21, 2010
Spagbol (post 20)
I would bring beef jerky, because that is the best snack when you're camping. I would also bring fruit, or find fruit with insolated cups that make smoothies because having to be on the go, like Tally in the book, you would need your vitamins.
A list of things I would miss if i was forced to go on a journey:
- my family
- my soft bed
- my dog and cat
- my friends
- home-cooked meals
- a warm place to stay
- MY PHONE, LAPTOP, & IPOD
- clean clothes
- a toilet
Leaving (post 19)
Because Peris reminds her that she made a promise to him not to do anything stupid, and she really wants to be pretty.
Infiltrator (post 18)
- she was taken to Special Circumstances
- she answered questions
- Dr. Cable demanded Tally to find Shay
- if she didn't she would be ugly-for-life
Peris (post 17)
Why do you think Peris comes back?
I think he came back because he wanted to know why Tally wasn't pretty yet.
textual evidence:
"This whole trick where you haven't turned pretty yet. Mysterious."

Ugly for Life (post 16)
my response:
Tally feels even though everyone isn't looking at her she is actually quite visible to everyone in her dorm, and she isn't used to anyone paying attention to her.
Special Circumstances (post 15)
Summarize the chapter in chronological order:
- The man takes Tally to this "place"
- He leads her to a woman
- She asks Tally questions about Shay
- Also about Shay's friends
- Tally is told she can't turn pretty until she reveals Shay's secret
My prediction on what will happen next:
Tally will keep Shay's secret for a while, but then I think she'll start to suffer knowing she's giving up everything she is just to keep Shay from being found. I think she knows Shay is doing the wrong thing she just doesn't want to admit it because Shay is her best friend.
Characterization of Dr. Cable:
- scary
- wierd
- demanding
- quiet
- hardworker
- mean

Operation (post14)
- Tally is about to leave her dorm for the most important event in her life
- She leaves in a hovercar
- She arrives at the hospital and waits
- She waits for hours
- Then a doctor comes out and reports to her there is problem in the operation
I think next Tally will just have to adjust a few things and then get her operation.
Fight (post 13)
The first fight:
- silly
- a joke
- not real
- to scare the new uglies at the dorm
- funny
The second fight:
- real
- not a joke
- between Tally and Shay
- discussed turning pretty
- Tally upset
- Shay didn't want to turn pretty
- Tally did though
The first fight took place because the girls only had a few more weeks before turning pretty, so they wanted to play some jokes. The second fight took place because the girls were arguing about becoming pretty, and Shay didn't want to turn pretty, but Tally did.
The outcome of the first fight was funny, the girls didn't get caught. The outcome of the second fight wasn't good, the girls didn't talk for a while.
Waiting for David (post12)
"That was one thing about being outside the city: It masde all that nature stuff they thought in school seem a lot more useful. she remembered now how rainwater fell on the mountains and soacked into the ground....."
The town is fake and everything is man-made.

The Rusty Ruins (post 11)
- They hoverboard to Rusty Ruins.
- On the way they se beautiful scenery.
- Tally notices the Rusty Ruins is destroyed.
- They ride the roller coaster; Tally fell off and got really scared.
- Shay wants Tally to meet someone.
similies in the chapter:
pg 62 "Every building sported jagged spurs of metal sticking from its broken walls, like bones jutting from a long-dead animal."
pg 64 "On the roller coaster, hoverboarding really was like being a bird."
Rapids (post 10)
I do agree with Tally, because everything is better when it's a surprise.
http://ezinearticles.com/?History-of-Whitewater-Rafting&id=276992
Pretty Boring (post 9)
The Rusty Ruins is an old town past Uglyville. It's destroyed and cars are blown up. Tally describes hearing screams, and people being trapped as the town burnt. During the time period of the Rusty Ruins, when people actually lived there, it was kind of the world we live in now. Buildings that had to be held up by poles, that didn't hover, like the ones in Uglyville.
Define peer pressure. Think of a time when it happened to you or someone you know and explain the situation in a paragraph.
Peer pressure-when you're forced to do somethingyou don't want to do because of pressure from friends. I've never really had peer pressure happen to me. I know for sure I've had good peer pressure, like my friends and family cheering me on in whatever I do.
Facing the Future (post 8)
"Making ourselves feel ugly is not fun."...."This whole game is just designed to make us hate ourselves."
Shay is kind of saying the game makes her feel uglier than what she alreaady is.
"Everyone judged everyone else based on their appearance. People who were taller got better jobs...people killed one another over stuff like having different skin color." (Referring to when everyone was ugly)
This means people killed or judged just because they weren't equal in appearance.
"It's the only way to make people equal. " (becoming pretty)
She's trying to say making everyone pretty would make everything better. So that no one would have to judge anyone else.

Wipeout (post 7)
http://http//www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=6p-wjRHI8gg&pop_ads=0#t=163
Why do you think the new pretties don't come back to Uglyville to visit? Describe their physical & mental transformations into new pretties?
I think new pretties don't go and visit in Uglyville because they become different and why would they want to go back to such a boring town?
New pretties physical and mental transformations into new pretties consist of:
physical:
- new skin
- plastic cheek bones
- full lips
- new eyes
mental:
- I'm better.
- I'm prettier.
- Why should I have to go back?

Shay (post 6)
Tally is trying to get out of New Pretty Town as fast as she can because of all the trouble she caused, with the sirens and hovercars. But while she's hiding she can see a figure through the brush so she has to be really still. But when she blows her cover, she gives up and says sorry. The girl turned around, and when the light caught her face, Tally could tell she was an ugly. Her name was Shay and Tally looked at her characteristics, comparing them to a prettie's. Shay is super surprised but also wowed when she finds out that Tally caused all the commotion. But she also thinks it's super cool. Then Shay wows Tally showing her her hoverboard. But instead of flying Tally thinks it would be safer if they just went to the bridge Tally crossed over to get into New Pretty Town.
What have you learned about Shay? Is she like Tally? Make a prediction about what will happen between Tally and Shay.
I learned that Shay is also a curious ugly, and she has friends that are older than her and have already become pretties. Shayis is kind of like Tally, they both love expeditions and like exploring. I think Tally and Shay will become great friends, but will end up taking risks together.
Best Friends Forever (post 5)
I think New Pretty Town advocates bungee jumping, because the Pretties aren't active and it gives them an adrenaline rush and it's something fun for them to do. Since that's the only thing they do in New Pretty Town.
http://www.athleticscholarships.net/extreme-bungee-jumping.htm
Best Friends Forever (post 4)
- tall
- frizzy hair/brown hair
- brown eyes
- an ugly
- eager
- sad
- curious
- brave
- has a scar on her hand
- "best friend" is Peris
- wants to be a pretty
- almost 16
- squinty eyes
Characterization of Peris:
- a pretty
- brown eyes
- different than what he used to be when he was ugly
- tall
- thin
- "best friend" is Tally
- new skin
- symetrical features
How do you feel about the friendship of Tally and Peris? Are they true best friends? Why or why not?
I feel that Tally and Peris were true best friends when Peris was an ugly but now that he's an pretty, he doesn't care about Tally anymore. I feel this way because if i had a true friend and they moved away, they would mail me or call me. But in the Uglies Peris never did mail Tally at all he thought it was "bogus". If mailing your best friend is "bogus" then they aren't a real and true best friend at all.

New Pretty Town (post 3)
"Before she pressed it against her face, Tally realized that it was the same color as the cat-vomit pink of the sunset, with a long snout and two pink little ears. Smart adhesive flexed against her skin as the mask settled onto her face.
Tally pushed her way through the drunken dancers, out the other side of the procession, and ran down a side street toward Garbo Mansion, wearing the face of a pig."
-Tally tries to disguise herself so no one will know she's ugly, but the mask she picks doesn't really cover anything.
Why do you think Tally chose to wear a mask to the party that was deemed "white-tie"?
She didn't want anyone to know she was an ugly in Pretty
Town, and she wasn't exactly dressed properly for the party.
history of the mask:

New Pretty Town (post 2)
I have, 2 years ago, and its not fun to see them move away especially when you made really good friends with them. Unfortunetly we don't talk anymore since she's been gone so long, but i try to think about her sometimes and remember the good times we had.
Describe terms:
1. interface ring- a ring that makes uglies visible to pretties
2. toothbrush pill- a pill Tally chewed to bush her teeth
3. cacophony- music; a bunch of different sounds
Before Reading (post 1)
